Depending on which ink cartridges you go through faster, a combination of different packages may or may not save you some money.
Currently (Apr. 17, 2010), it is cheaper to buy the whole set than mix-n-matching. It’s the Photo Magenta and Photo Cyan that kills you…
If you own an 8 color printer like the Canon Pixma Pro9000, then you’d want to at least get the full set by purchasing the Canon CLI-8 8-Color Multipack Ink Tanks.
But if you have a 6-color printer like the Pixus iP6600, then you don’t need the Green or the Red cartridge, so you’d have to purchase the Canon CLI-8 4-Color Multipack Ink Tanks, then add on an order of the Photo Cyan and Photo Magenta.
If you happen to go though the regular magenta, yellow, or cyan but NOT black, then there is also the Canon CLI-8 3 Pack C/M/Y Value Pack.
